The Tiffin University women's soccer team (1-7-2) concluded the nonconference portion of the schedule on Wednesday afternoon against Daemen (NY). Despite numerous scoring chances in the second half, the Dragons did not find the back of the net and lost 1-0.
The Wildcats spent the majority of the first 20 minutes putting pressure on the Dragons' defense and broke through with the only goal of the game in the 20th minute. The Dragons had trouble gaining control of the ball and it deflected off a TU defender, and it landed to Daemen's Kylie Miranto who got the shot past TU goalkeeper Aubree Lee. Miranto gained control of the ball near the box before finishing.
The Dragons nearly struck first as Tia Nagle got a good look at the target, but the shot missed just high.
The Dragons statistically dominated the second half offensively despite being held scoreless again. Tiffin outshot the Wildcats 12-5 in the second half and seven of those shots landed on goal. The two best chances came from free kicks just outside the box. Four minutes into the second half, Mikaela Bevelander's free kick was sent high on target but the Daemen's goalkeeper snagged it.
Sam McPhee's free kick chance missed left in the 78th minute. Amanda Feury also had a chance at a goal but was unable to get it over the goalkeeper's head in the 53rd minute.
The Dragons outshot the Wildcats 19-12, but it was the costly defensive miscue early that prevented a scoreless draw.
Aubree Lee took the loss, playing all 90 minutes while making four saves.
