Dragons finish a perfect 3-0 at Midwest Region Crossover with victory against Illinois Springfield

The Tiffin University volleyball team (5-11) finished off a perfect 3-0 weekend Saturday morning at the Midwest Region Crossover with a 3-1 victory against the University of Illinois Springfield (25-21, 25-17, 18-25, 25-17).

The Dragons started out strong, leading 7-5 but then had to rally back as UIS scored six in a row to take an 11-7 lead. Two errors by UIS made it 14-14 and a kill by Olivia Karhoff put TU back on top 15-14. The Dragons never trailed again in the set and won five of the final eight points to take the first set as Karhoff clinched it with another kill.

Tiffin got off to a fast start in the second set and never trailed. TU won the first four and seven of the first eight overall. The Prairie Stars got within three until an ace by Katelyn Owens, and a couple of UIS errors made it 18-11 Tiffin. Owens finished the set with a kill.

Despite a quick 4-1 advantage in the third set, the Dragons were unable to hold onto the lead. A kill from Maddie Daniel tied it at 13 and UIS won five of the next six to lead 18-14. The Prairie Stars would finish strong, winning five of the final seven points to extend the match.

In the fourth set, a kill by Kaylee Freund made it 5-5 and that ignited an eight-point run as the Dragons rushed out to a 12-5 lead. The Dragons never allowed UIS to get any closer, and Maddie Daniel clinched the match with a kill.

Karhoff and Daniel finished with 11 and 10 kills, respectively, and Maggie Pavlansky had 20 assists. Karhoff had 15 digs to lead defensively while Morgan Morley and Kat Akolzin both had eight.
