Tiffin drops final match of the weekend in Michigan

The Tiffin University volleyball team (2-11, 0-7 G-MAC) finished the first round of north division play Saturday afternoon at Hillsdale and fell in straight sets 3-0 (22-25, 19-25, 21-25).

The Dragons had early momentum in the opening set leading 9-4 after kills by Kaylee Freund, Maddie Daniel, and Jada Shade. Another kill by Daniel made it 16-13 and Hillsdale then won four in a row to take a 17-16 and maintained the lead for the remainder of the set.

The second set was the opposite, this time with Hillsdale jumping out early. The Chargers won eight of the first 11. TU tried to rally late as Katelyn Owens and Daniel recorded kills. That cut the deficit to 21-18 and the Chargers won four of the final five points in the set.

The third set featured a back-and-forth affair to start until Hillsdale won six of seven to lead 12-8. Tiffin went on another run late as a kill by Shade cut the deficit to 18-17. The Dragons could not get closer though as Hillsdale snatched momentum back winning five straight points.

Daniel had eight kills and Kat Akolzin recorded 14 assists with Maggie Pavlansky adding 13. Morgan Morley led the way defensively with 12 digs.

The Dragons finished with a higher hit percentage than last night, ending the match at a .212 clip. The Chargers hit .304.
