Tiffin University (4-2, 3-1 G-MAC) lit up the sky against Walsh, totaling 405 yards through the air en route to a 54-7 win.
Alex Johnson had a field day, putting together the 7th-best passing day in TU history with 399 yards. It marked Johnson's second consecutive big passing game against Walsh as he totaled 403 yards against the Cavaliers in 2024.
After a sluggish first quarter,
Ben Rudolph got the Dragons on the board with a 39-yard field goal at the 1:50 mark as TU led 3-0 at the end of the quarter.
Tiffin exploded in the second quarter for 21 points. Tiffin finished off a 68-yard drive with a 6-yard TD toss from Johnson to
Joey Zalewski at the 10:22 mark to move ahead 10-0.
It took just three plays for the Dragons to score on its next possession, with
Ethan Holbrook hauling in a 49-yard bomb as the offense came alive at the 7:47 mark.
After Walsh drove 73 yards and scored on a big 37-yard run, the Dragons responded with an 81-yard drive that ended with a 20-yard Zalewski TD reception with 1:16 left in the half.
Tiffin opened the second half with another big strike, as Holbrook connected on a 59-yard reception from Johnson as TU upped its lead to 31-7 at the 13:03 mark of the third quarter.
Tiffin kept the train rolling, as
Ronald Blackman ran around right end for a 19-yard TD rush at the 8:57 mark. Tiffin's
Ryan Konyecsni then blocked a Walsh punt out of the Walsh end zone, resulting in a safety that gave TU a 40-7 lead at the 7:22 mark of the third quarter.
Tiffin picked up two more scores in the final quarter.
Emari White ran for 7 yards at the 7:56 mark, while
Hayden Bills hauled in a 6-yard pass from
Kyle Antoine at 5:07 to finish the scoring.
Overall TU outgained Walsh 524-180 including 405-94 through the air. They had 25 first downs to Walsh's 12 and held the Cavaliers to 1 for 13 on third downs.Â
Tiffin's defense was strong, posting 4 sacks along with 2 interceptions and 7 pass breakups.
Khris Walton had 1.5 sacks while
Radical Rothermel (1),
Anthony Shields (1), and
Uzonna Nzekwe (0.5) also had sacks.
Malik Baker had 9 tackles to lead the team along with an interception and 3 pass breakups along with a forced fumble.
Kyle Johnson also had a pick with an 18-yard return. Jacob Tuiemeh had 7 tackles while
Aiden Fischer had 6.
Johnson finished 26 of 36 for 399 yards and 4 TDs with Holbrook being the prime beneficiary with 147 yards on 7 catches.
Jaedyn McKinstry had 63 yards receiving while
Javier Wills (48), Zalewski (45), and White (42) also had solid games.
