The Tiffin University women's soccer team (1-5, 1-2 G-MAC) began their four-game road trip Thursday evening with a G-MAC game at Kentucky Wesleyan and were shutout 3-0. The Dragons are now 0-4 in road games so far this season and are slated to play their next three on the road.
Kentucky Wesleyan got on the board early in this one to take a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute. TU goalkeeper Malea Nelson came out of position and went towards the ball but was unable to get there as Kentucky Wesleyan's Haley Osborne snuck it past and into the back of the net.
The Panthers controlled the majority of the first half and had a 7-2 advantage in shot attempts. Eight minutes into the second half, the Panthers scored again to extend their lead and added another in the 89th minute to make it 3-0.
Shot attempts were even at eight apiece in the second half but the Dragons were unable to push one across despite sending nine of their 10 shots attempts on goal including seven in the second half. TU also had opportunities on set pieces as they attempted six corner kicks in the game, but the KWC defense held strong throughout to earn the shutout. TU had a few late opportunities as Sam McPhee and Dani Garner recorded back-to-back shots on goal but were denied by KWC's goalkeeper Kassidy Elkin.
Nelson played all 90 minutes in goal and made five saves while McPhee and Autumn Schweitzer had two shots on goal each.
The Dragons will wrap up their Kentucky trip with a game at Thomas More on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 1:30pm.
