It was a tale of two halves, as Tiffin University (3-2-1, 2-0 G-MAC) battled back from a first-half deficit to beat Malone on the road 2-1.
Malone tallied a goal in the 11th minute to jump ahead 1-0. The Pioneers dictated much of the tempo, outshooting TU 9-2 with four shots on goal. They led at halftime 1-0.
The Dragons turned it around in the second half, turning up the offense while tightening the defense. The Dragons outshot Malone 11-1 in the half while allowing just one shot to the Pioneers. They allowed no shots on goal in the second half.
Malone handed TU their first goal to tie the game 1-1 with an own goal in the 52nd minute. Even with the Dragons controlling the second half, they did not get the gamewinning goal until the 83rd minute when
Caleb Gibbons scored on a pass from
Cian Tunney.
The TU defense was especially tight, not allowing a single Malone shot over the final 32 minutes of the game.
Felix Graf got the win in goal, making 4 saves over 90 minutes.
Overall TU outshot Malone 13-10.
