Dragons fall in OT in season finale 13-12

Tiffin University (4-10, 1-7 G-MAC) saw its season come to a close in an overtime thriller, falling 13-12 to Thomas More in a rain-soaked finale.

Tiffin found itself playing catch-up throughout the game, falling behind 5-3 at the end of the first quarter.

Trailing 7-4 early in the second quarter, the Dragons came back with a pair of goals from Isaac Wert along with a goal by Sam Trujillo to make the score 8-7 at halftime. 

Again, the Saints pulled away to an 11-7 lead with 4:51 left in the third quarter. The Dragons responded with four straight goals over a 7:00 period to tie the game at 11-11 with 13:11 left in the game.

Kyle Geller, Aydan Gilbert, Connor Gucwa, and Wert scored consecutive goals to set up a tight final quarter. The Saints picked up a goal at the 5:45 mark to pull ahead 12-11 but Brandon MacDonell tied the score at the 4:57 mark. 

Tiffin had three shots in the final 2:06 but could not get the game-winning goal while TU goalkeeper Tyler Nutting made another game-saving save with 30 seconds left to send the game to overtime.

The Saints ended the game with a goal with 2:41 left in the overtime period.

Tiffin outshot Thomas More 38-36 but the Saints won the ground ball battle 40-25 while also winning 20 of 29 faceoffs. 

MacDonell had 3 goals and 4 assists along with 4 ground balls and 3 caused turnovers, while Wert finished with 4 goals. Gilbert had 2 goals and 2 assists with 4 ground balls, Gucwa had a goal and assist, and Mike Roman had 9 ground balls and 3 caused turnovers.

Nutting took the tough loss in goal, making 12 saves.
