King's gem leads to split in Florida

Tiffin University (11-7) got a 2-hit gem from Jules King, as TU defeated Staten Island 12-0 in six innings. Earlier in the day, the Dragons fell to Notre Dame 3-2.

Against the Dolphins, King fanned 10 batters with no walks in her best performance of the season so far. She also went 2 for 3 at the plate.

TU broke through in the third inning with four runs. After King walked and advanced on a wild pitch, Reagan Mengerink singled. Maci Head then singled for one run and Baylee Mirgon drilled a three-run home run in the next at-bat.

Tiffin added another run in the fourth. After a King single, Maddie Woods and Head both walked. Mirgon then flied out to right field to get in the run.

Two more runs came across in the fifth inning. After Aubrie Harper singled, Maya Miles drove her home with a double to left center and advanced to third on the throw. King then brought her home with a groundout to shortstop.

The Dragons blew the game open with 5 runs in the sixth inning. Mengerink doubled, and pinchrunner Ryan Wallace advanced to third on a passed ball. Mirgon then singled for another RBI. Lexi Key followed with a single, and Harper blasted a three-run home run to left field. After a walk to Miles, a single by Alyssa Gettys to left field followed by a fielding error in left field allowed TU's final run to score.

TU had 16 hits overall, with MIrgon getting 3 hits for 5 RBI. Woods, Mengerink, Iris Pierson, and Miles had doubles while Mirgon and Harper had home runs.

In the game against Notre Dame, Claire Feldkamp took the loss despite giving up no earned runs over 7 innings. She fanned 9 but also had 5 walks while allowing just 2 hits.

The Falcons got their three runs in the third inning, and the Dragons managed single runs in the fourth and sixth innings.

In the fourth, Woods doubled and came around to score from second on a subsequent passed ball.

In the sixth inning, Woods singled and moved to third on an error in center field on a fly ball. Head then followed with a sacrifice fly for TU's lone run.
