The Dragons (3-6, 1-0 G-MAC) were able to stave off a second-half comeback attempt by Thomas More to hang on for a 14-11 victory in their conference opener at home.
Tiffin was off to a quick start, blanking the Saints 5-0 in the first quarter.
Lauren Walsh scored the first and last goals of the quarter, sandwiching a hat-trick by
Brenna Bohan. The duo continued to dominate as Bohan connected with Walsh to score the first goal of quarter number two as well. Bohan then netted her fourth, gifting the Dragons a 7-0 lead.
Thomas More scored its first of the game less than two minutes later before TU responded by scoring three more to end the half. The first came through
Katelyn Jarvis followed by back-to-back goals from
Caylin Kunze.
The second half was a different story, however, as the Saints made some key adjustments at the break. The Dragons were held to three goals in the third quarter and just one in the fourth as Thomas More battled its way back into the game. A steady attack led to the Saints cutting the lead to just three with four minutes remaining.
Tiffin buckled down defensively as
Guinevere Salas netted another to help the Dragons hang on for the victory.
Bohan led the team with five goals and an assist for a total of five points on the day. Walsh netted four and added an assist while Kunze tallied two goals. Both Jarvis and Salas posted a goal and an assist each, totaling two points.
Jenay Rennie recorded a career-high 24 saves on her Senior Day, tying Jessica Bombard for the most saves in a single game in program history and surpassing Kat Schneeberger for the second-most saves in a career all-time with 591.
The Dragons will now travel to face Ursuline College on Thursday, March 28 at 12 p.m.
