Dragons’ Home Opener Spoiled by CSU-Pueblo

Tiffin's (2-5) third-quarter struggles led to a 23-11 defeat to Colorado State-Pueblo in its first home game of the season.

The Dragons opened strong, netting the first two goals of the game thanks to Katelyn Jarvis. Following a pair of goals by CSU-Pueblo, Jarvis netted her third to secure the hat-trick within the opening four minutes to regain the lead. The back and forth continued as Brenna Bohan tallied her first of the day before three-straight goals from the Thunderwolves to end the quarter earned them a 6-4 lead heading into the second.

Just under four minutes into the second quarter, Jarvis picked up yet another goal to pull the Dragons to within two at 7-5. A run by CSU-Pueblo helped extend its lead to 11-5 but Tiffin battled back with three in a row in less than a minute. Lauren Walsh and Cassidy Kumiega tallied their firsts of the game before Walsh netted once again.

The third quarter would be all one-way action as CSU-Pueblo outscored the Dragons 8-1 for the period with the only goal coming through Kumiega. Tiffin added two more in the fourth on goals by Caylin Kunze and a second from Bohan.

Jarvis and Walsh led the Dragons offensively both with four points each as Jarvis ended with a team-high four goals while Walsh posted two goals and two assists. They were followed by Bohan with two goals and an assist for a total of three points. Bohan also led TU in draw controls with seven followed closely by Jarvis with six.

In the cage, Jenay Rennie racked up 19 saves in 45 minutes played while Sarah Hart tallied two in just under 10 minutes.

It was the start of a three-game home stretch for the Dragons as they will now look ahead to their matchup with Lewis University on Sunday, March 17 at 1 p.m.
