Dragons come up short at Crossroads Bowl, fall 29-10

Box Score Tiffin University (8-4) could not get on track offensively, falling to Truman State in the Crossroads Bowl 29-10 in Hobart, Indiana.

The Dragons fell behind after giving up 10 first-quarter points. The Bulldogs opened with a 38 yard field goal and then capped a four-play, 65-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run to lead 10-0 after one quarter.

Tiffin got on the board when Ben Rudolph booted a 23-yard field goal at the 14:41 mark of the second quarter to make it 10-3.

The Bulldogs tacked on another touchdown with 5:19 to play in the half to take a 16-3 lead into the halftime break.

Late in the third quarter, Malik Baker intercepted a pass deep in Bulldogs' territory to give the Dragons a spark. TU answered with a 7-yard TD run by Ronald Blackman to bring the Dragons to within 16-10 at the 14:54 mark of the fourth quarter.

Truman State bounced back quickly, driving 50 yards before kicking a 31-yard field goal to push its lead to 9 points. 

The tide turned dramatically on Tiffin's next possession. Tiffin's Alex Johnson threw an interception that was returned 58 yards for a score at the 6:09 mark that put TU in the hole 26-10.

The Bulldogs finished the scoring with a 23-yard field goal with 55 seconds left.

Overall TSU outgained the Dragons 316-182, as the Dragons totaled just 18 yards rushing. The Bulldogs had the first down edge 20-11. Tiffin went just 3-for-14 on third-down conversions and were at an 11:00 disadvantage in time of possession. Tififn also was hurt by two interceptions and a fumble.

Blackman led the team with 32 yards rushing while Johnson had 164 yards passing on 21 of 36 attempts. Javier Wills had 43 yards receiving.

Defensively Buba Bangura had 14 tackles while Baker had 11 stops with an interception, fumble forced, and fumble recovery. Jacob Tueimeh also had 10 tackles while Khris Walton had 7 tackles with 1.5 sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss. Zach McMinn also had a half sack.
