Dragons endure second-half scoring barrage by Wayne State in road loss

The Tiffin University men's basketball team (1-5) trailed 43-33 at halftime and then endured a hot-shooting Warriors squad in the second half. Wayne State outscored Tiffin 41-21 in the final 20 minutes and won by a final score of 84-54.  

Wayne State led from start to finish for the win. The Dragons got off to a bit of a slow start, but two free throws by Allen Fordham and a layup by John Muhammad cut the deficit to 10-8. Following the layup, the Warriors responded with a 12-0 run to make it 22-8 with 11:48 remaining in the first half.  

The Warriors expanded their lead to 18, 37-19, their largest of the first half with just over six minutes left in the opening period, but the Dragons finished the half strong, outscoring WSU 14-6 to cut the deficit to 10, 43-33, going into halftime. Following a layup by Muhammad with 1:43 remaining, both teams were scoreless during the remaining time.  

The hot-shooting Warriors began the second half on a 13-3 run to double their lead to 20, 56-36, with 15:12 left in the game. WSU then went on another run, this time a 9-0 spurt to extend their lead to 29 and their largest lead of the game was 33. In the second half, Wayne state was 62.5 percent from the floor compared to just 30.8 percent by the Dragons.  

Overall in the game, the Warriors doubled the Dragons in made three-pointers (12-6) and finished 58.9 percent from the floor while Tiffin ended with a 40 percent shooting mark.  

Fordham led the way with 15 points and Muhammad added 12. KJ Pruitt finished with six points and six assists while Caleb Bates had four points and grabbed a team-high five rebounds.  

The Dragons return home after Thanksgiving break for their next game on Tuesday, December 3 against Penn State Fayette at 7 p.m. inside the Gillmor Center.
