The Tiffin University volleyball team (8-6, 3-3 G-MAC) dropped their homecoming match to Ohio Dominican, falling in four sets (17-25, 25-22, 22-25, 22-25).
The Dragons fell behind early in set one as the Panthers won nine of the first 12 points. Two kills from Josie Reinhart brought the Dragons within four, 16-12, but that would be as close as TU could get as ODU won six of the final 10 points to claim set one. The Dragons struggled offensively in the set and had a negative hitting percentage.
TU again got off to a slow start in the second set as ODU won the first three points but a combined block by Reinhart and Katelyn Owens tied the set at six. A kill by Kaylee Freund again tied it, this time at 12 apiece. The Panthers responded and took seven of the next nine points to take a 19-14 lead. The Dragons then responded in a big way, going on two big runs to regain the advantage. Overall, TU won 11 of the final 14 points of the set to even the match.
TU held a brief 12-11 lead in the third set until the Panthers rallied to win four in a row to take the lead back 15-12. Tiffin regained some momentum later on and took a 20-19 lead following back-to-back solo blocks by Taylor Peterson. The Dragons were unable to hang on though as the Panthers won six of the final eight points of the set.
With the fourth set tied at eight, ODU won the next four points and the deficit was too much to overcome for the Dragons. TU got within two points a few times and fought off two match points, but the Panthers clinched the match on a kill following a timeout.
Freund led the way in kills with 12 and Olivia Karhoff had a team high 12 digs. Addison Conti recorded 21 assists and Maggie Pavlansky added 13. Lexi Barber had three service aces.
As a team, the Dragons finished the match with a hitting percentage of .163.
The Dragons continue their homestand on Friday, Oct. 11 when Northwood visits the Gillmor Center. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
