Tiffin ground game decimates Storm 50-0

Tiffin University (7-0, 5-0 G-MAC) ran away with the victory at Lake Erie, using a punishing ground game to blast past the Storm 50-0.

Tiffin totaled a whopping 356 yards on the ground on 52 carries, averaging 6.8 yards per rush and scoring all 7 touchdowns. The 7 rushing touchdowns were the most ever in a Division II game for Tiffin, while the 356 yards were the fourth-highest total in the Division II era for the Dragons.

Overall the Dragons gained 513 yards of offense. They outgained the Storm by 416 yards, as the defense dominated play all day. They held a 25-6 edge in first downs and held Lake Erie to just 48 yards rushing and 97 yards of total offense. The Dragons' defense also had 4 sacks and did not allow a single third-down conversion (0-for-13). 

A muffed punt by the Storm late in the first quarter gave TU the ball on Lake Erie's 12-yard line, leading to a 4-yard TD run by Carson Gresock at the 5:38 mark, the first of three touchdowns on the day for him.

Gresock got another big score on Tiffin's next possession, taking the ball and erupting for a 57-yard run with 11 seconds left in the quarter to make it 14-0, Dragons.

Tiffin scored 15 more points in the second quarter. Ronald Blackman rushed for a 4-yard touchdown to end a 64-yard drive, with James Dean running in a two-point conversion, and Tyrese Banks-Dorn scored the first of his three touchdowns with a 10-yard run with 1:52 left in the half. The Dragons led at the break 29-0.

Tiffin continued to run down the clock with an emphasis on the ground game in the second half. Banks-Dorn got another score in the third quarter, this time on a 23-yard rush as the score expanded to 35-0.

TU tacked on two more scores in the final quarter. Gresock got a 3-yard TD run at the 10:54 mark, and Banks-Dorn had another explosive run into the end zone from 30 yards out for TU's final touchdown. Dean's second two-point conversion made it 50-0.

Tiffin nearly had three rushers eclipse 100 yards in the game. Gresock finished with a career-high 163 yards on 16 carries (10.2 yards per rush), while Banks-Dorn had 103 yards rushing on 8 carries for a huge 12.9 yards per carry average. Blackman finished his day early with 93 yards.

Kason Martin kept the offense moving, connecting on 16 of 26 passes for 120 yards, with Will Linkhart leading the receivers with 35 yards.

While not forcing any turnovers in the game, the defense kept the Storm completely contained over 60 minutes. Patrick Tueimeh and Robert Holtz led the team with 6 tackles apiece, with Holtz getting 2 sacks. Antonio O'Berry also had 4 tackles with 1.5 sacks, while Caleb Streat also had a half-sack. Zeke Brown, Jesse Connell, and Barry Brown also had 4 stops each.

Tiffin now returns home for its Homecoming game Oct. 21 at 4 pm with Kentucky Wesleyan.
