Dragons Power Past Trevecca Nazarene 3-1

The Tiffin University volleyball team defeated Trevecca Nazarene 3-1.

The Dragons improve to 12-17 overall and 6-9 in conference play, while the Trojans fall to 18-9 overall and 9-6 in the conference.

Tiffin jumped out to a 6-1 lead early in the first set. The Trojans went on a 3-1 run to come within three at 7-4 but the Dragons countered with a 5-1 run to lead 12-5. Trevecca rallied on a 6-0 run to come within one at 12-11, forcing a Tiffin timeout. The Dragons came out and rallied five unanswered points to lead 17-11. The Trojans chipped away at the Tiffin lead with two 3-0 runs to bring the score to 20-18, but Tiffin outscored the visitors 5-2 to win set one 25-22.

The Trojans came out in the third set and scored the first four points. However, the Dragons came back with a 7-2 run to lead 8-7. Trevecca was able to build a two-point lead at 16-14, then Tiffin went on an 8-1 run to take a 22-17 lead. The Trojans didn't give up though, going on a 4-0 run to come within one of Tiffin, but the Dragons scored the last two points to win set two 25-22.

Trevecca jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the third set. Tiffin chipped away at the lead, outscoring the visitors 5-2 and bringing the score to 11-8, but the Trojans kept the pressure on and built up a 19-14 lead. The Trojans were able to outlast a late surge by the Dragons to win set three 25-21.

In the fourth set, the visitors again gained an early 6-0 lead, but Tiffin countered with an 8-2 run to tie the game at 8-8. After Trevecca scored two quick points to lead 10-8, the Dragons had a huge 11-2 run to lead 19-12. The Trojans were able to come within five of the Dragons but the big rally was able to seal the win for Tiffin as they took set four 25-19. 

Taylor Peterson led Tiffin's offense with 13 kills, a .149 hitting percentage, and 19 digs, Grace Schreiber also did well, recording nine kills with a .154 hitting percentage, and 1.5 blocks, and Kenedi Goon tallied six kills with a .120 hitting percentage, one dig, and 1.5 blocks. Wakaya Wilson notched seven kills and three digs while captain Loryn Huffman registered 37 assists, 15 digs, five kills with a .231 hitting percentage, two service aces, and 1.5 blocks.
