Nichols' Double-Double Paces Dragons at Ursuline

Box Score

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – Tiffin women's basketball fell behind early and could not make up the difference against Ursuline College on Thursday evening as the Arrows took an 83-70 win.

Aarion Nichols notched her first career double-double with 14 points and 10 boards, while Ali Schirmer (14) and Allie Miller (11) were also in double figures for the Dragons.

Tiffin won the turnover battle on the evening, committing 17 while forcing 18, and matched Ursuline on the glass with 36 rebounds, nine of which came on the offensive end. TU also outscored UC off the bench to the tune of 28-24.

Mary Redmond got the scoring started with a deep three from straightaway to give the Dragons an early lead. Ursuline rattled off the next 13 points in a row, though, before a layup from Amanda Fire broke the run and made it 13-5 with 5:57 to play in the quarter.

Tiffin shot 40% from deep in the first period, but it was the Arrows holding a 20-13 after the opening frame.

Ursuline opened the second quarter with another run, outscoring TU 13-4 over the first four minutes to force a Dragon timeout. Jasmine Watts came out of the break with a bucket in the paint to cut the deficit to 33-19, but the Dragons were unable to make up any more ground over the rest of the period as Ursuline went into the half with a 45-30 advantage.

Redmond led TU with seven points (2-4 from deep) in the first-half, while Aarion Nichols tallied five points, six rebounds, and three assists over the first 20 minutes of action.

The Dragons were unable to mount a comeback in the second-half, as Ursuline led by 14 at the end of the third and then extended their lead to as many as 19 before the final horn sounded to give the Arrows the 83-70 victory.

Tiffin will look to get back in the win column this Saturday as they travel to Lake Erie College for a 1:00 p.m. start.
