Warriors run over Dragons 35-21

Tiffin University (2-2) expected Wayne State to rush the ball but could do little to stop it, as the Warriors piled up 414 rushing yards en route to a 35-21 victory.

Wayne State wasted little time reaching the end zone, scoring 21 points in the first quarter to take a lead they did not relinquish. They scored just three plays into the game on an 11 yard run at the 13:43 mark to make it 7-0.

The Dragons answered immediately, as Antonio Pipkin hit Jordan Nobles on a 6 yard TD pass at 10:58 of the first quarter to make it 7-7.

The Warriors then scored quickly on consecutive 5 play drives to lead 21-7 at the end of the first quarter. A scoreless second quarter kept the Dragons down 14 points at the half.

WSU put together a 8 play, 45 yard drive at 9:49 of the third quarter to take a 28-7 lead. Tiffin needed to rally quickly to make a 4th quarter run, and they got on the board with 14:55 left when Pipkin connected with Kyle Brunson on a 4 yard pass to make it 28-14.

Wayne State got a boost on their next possession, scoring on a 66 yard run to push their lead back to 21 points.

TU's final score came with 11:06 left when Pipkin hit Trent Stamm on a 29 yard TD toss to make the final score 35-21.

Overall WSU had 24 first downs to TU's 16. They racked up 528 yards of offense, including a 414-109 edge on the ground (averaging 8 yards per carry). The ground game also gave WSU a big advantage in time of possession 36:41 to 23:19.

Pipkin did his best to carry the Dragons, connecting on 25 of 48 passes for 277 yards and 3 TDs but was also sacked 4 times with an interception. He also led TU with 75 yards rushing.

Charles Holland had 4 catches for 99 yards, while Stamm had 7 catches for 85 yards.

Defensively Jacob Mertus had 10 tackles with a sack, while Morgan Loyd also had 8 tackles. DJ Steward had 7 tackles, as did Willie Mays and Terry Harper. Jalen Randolph, Victor Cave, and Ross Moore all had sacks, while Jawan Nelson and Shawn Scott had interceptions.
