The Tiffin University men's basketball team couldn't hold off the charging Timberwolves on Thursday night, falling by the final score of 79-76.
The Dragons scuffled out of the gate in the 1st half, falling behind by as much as 13 points, before rallying. With the Dragons down 31-18, Tiffin used a 15-2 run to tie the contest at 33-33. Then Jonathan Sutherlin put the Dragons ahead, with a layup at 35-33. Northwood was able to tie the game again, but once more it was Sutherlin to the rescue with a layup at the buzzer to give TU a 37-35 halftime lead.
The Dragons were led at the half by Chrisean Marsden with 12 points, while Alex Brown added nine points. The Dragons shot 45% as a team from the floor, and held Northwood to 39% shooting.
The Dragons started the 2nd half by building upon their lead, pushing the Timberwolves' deficit to as much as six points. Northwood quickly responded, tying the score at 45-45. From that point on, neither team could build or hold a lead that was larger than five points. The Dragons mounted a five point lead, but couldn't hold it, but Northwood hung around and snuck in at the end, using a made three point basket with 01:02 left to regain the lead, and that was a lead they never relinquished, as Tiffin fell 79-76.
The Dragons were led in scoring by Alex Brown with 22 points, while adding 6 boards, 5 steals, and 4 assists. Chrisean Marsden poured in 19 points and 9 rebounds, Juwan Johnson added 14 points, and Jonathan Sutherlin netted 12 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.
The loss drops Tiffin to 6-8 overall and 2-5 in GLIAC play.
