The TU Women's Tennis team took on the UNOH Racers on Friday, with the Dragons picking up a close 6-3 victory. The doubles started off with the Dragons leading 2-1 after coming away with victories at 2nd and 3rd doubles. The Dragons fell at 1st Doubles by a score of 4-8 where Bianca Avram and Valentina Mazzola came alive late in the set, but the powerful serving Racers were just too much. At 2nd doubles standout Caroline Nelhage continued where she left off with a new partner after her former partner Chelsea Beck graduated. Nelhage's new partner was Aimee Kaye and she stepped up for the team when they needed it, coming away with a big 8-6 victory with Nelhage. At 3rd doubles Harpaintner and Adel Musina came from behind to record an 8-5 victory to put the Dragons up 2-1.
Drama ensued in the singles matches with things getting heated across the board. The Dragons were able to keep their cool and came away with an overall 6-3 victory. Major points came at 1st singles which was a 6-4, 6-4 victory for Nelhage and a big 7-5, 6-1 victory for freshman Adel Musina who will have an even bigger test Saturday when the team travels to Northwood for their toughest match of the season against last year's GLIAC champions. Other notable victories were at 4th and 5th singles where Bianca Avram and Caroline Harpaintner won their singles matches 6-4, 6-4 and 6-1, 6-4 respectively. Valentina Mazzola lost her 2nd singles match 2-6, 6-7 and Abi Schuster lost a close nail biter 6-1, 1-6, 3-6. The Dragons next continue onto Michigan to take on Northwood in their GLIAC opener.
