The Tiffin University volleyball team fell on Friday night 3-0 to the Saginaw Valley State University Cardinals.
In set one, The Dragons scored five of the first six points in the set, but Saginaw woke up and rattled off six straight points to take the lead. Tiffin fought back, but the Cardinals held on for a 25-20 set one win. The nine Dragon hitting errors proved costly for Tiffin, as Saginaw committed only five.
Set number two was much the same, as Saginaw scored six of the first seven points, and never looked back. Tiffin clawed to within two points at 12-10, but SVSU went on a 13-5 run to finish off Tiffin 25-15.
The third and final set was by far the most exciting, as the Dragons ramped up their intensity level. Fighting for their lives in this set, Tiffin didn't allow the Cardinals to go on big runs, as neither team led by more than three points. With Saginaw trailing 23-21, and Tiffin with the serve, the Dragons had an opportunity to put the set on ice, but couldn't. Saginaw used three kills and a Tiffin attacking error to claim the set 25-23 and the match 3-0.
For Tiffin, Alexandria Miglin led the attack with 11 kills and a .296 hitting percentage. Kasey Adelsperger added five kills and three blocks, Emily Weithman racked up 23 assists, and Olivia Cobb led the Dragons with 17 digs.
The loss drops the Dragons to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in the GLIAC. Tiffin will be back at it tomorrow afternoon, as they host yet another GLIAC foe in Wayne State University.
