The Tiffin University volleyball team handled the Central State Marauders with ease on Tuesday night, winning in three sets, 25-16, 25-10, and 25-6.
In set one, Tiffin jumped out of the gates to take a 5-1 lead, but had a lapse as CSU scored the next three points to make it 5-4. Tiffin regained the lead for a moment before the Marauders jumped back in front at 13-12. The Dragons tightened their grip on the set with a 13-4 scamper to end Central State's hopes of a set one win.
Central State showed signs of life in set two, jumping on the Dragons 4-0, but Tiffin was just getting warmed up. The Dragons rattled off seven straight points, including Olivia Cobb's four service aces. The points just kept on coming for Tiffin, as they racked up a total of nine aces in the set to cruise to a 25-10 win.
The third and final set saw the Dragons really dominate, as they only allowed CSU to crack the board six times, and used 11 service aces to aid their attack. Twice, the Dragons scored 10 straight points, including the final 10 of the match.
The Dragons had many standouts on the hardwood, but offensively Tiffin's Kasey Adelsperger recorded 10 aces, eight kills, and had a hitting percentage of .500. Olivia Cobb added five kills and four aces, and Amanda Curry chipped in with six kills and a couple of blocks. Emily Weithman handed out 28 assists, while Taylor Lattimore recorded eight digs.
The win bumps TU's overall record to 5-3. They remain 2-0 in the GLIAC, and will put their unbeaten mark on the line this Friday, as they host the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals at 7:00 p.m..
