1st Doubles
TU - Lezama/Frery vs. WU - Cabezon/Whittaker
In a shocking sweep of doubles, TU was able to win all three doubles against Walsh on Sunday. TU started it off with an important 8-6 victory at first doubles. The freshmen duo was coming off a big 2nd Doubles win the day before and carried over their confidence into an important Walsh match. TU served and returned well to give them the early advantage which they took late into the match for the victory.
2nd Doubles
TU - Ludena/Mangone vs. WU - Lucca/Jaque
In a last minute pairing, TU's Mangone and Ludena paired up for a dominant win at 2nd Doubles. TU won 8-4 to give them the first victory of all the doubles matches. This was the match that gave confidence to the rest of the matches en route to TU's doubles sweep.
3rd Doubles
TU - Almeida/Fernandes vs. WU - Vidmanov/Carter
In a close match, TU's Fernandes and Almeida defeated Vidmanov and Carter 8-6. TU's captain Fernandes and their lone senior Almeida were able to will their way to a match they knew was incredibly important in a match that was going to be very close. Every point was needed for TU to defeat Walsh and their third doubles team stepped up when they needed it with aggression at the net and frustrating doubles strategy for Walsh to handle.
1st Singles
TU - Luis Ludena vs. WU - Cabezon
TU's Ludena lost a close 4-6, 2-6 decision to Walsh's Cabezon. Ludena played a close match and was ultimately upended due to the aggressive play style of Cabezon. Mistakes late in the second set ended up costing TU at first singles.
2nd Singles
TU - Elio Lezama Perez vs. WU - Vidmanov
A match that both teams thought they had a good chance of winning, Walsh came away with a 6-3, 6-4 decision over TU's Lezama. Both players played aggressive and were able to pressure and take advantage of big serves all game. Lezama struggled and couldn't place aggressive serve returns for most of the set and thus couldn't really break Vidmanov.
3rd Singles
TU - Pierre Frery vs. WU - Whittaker
TU's Frery came up big for the team when his number was called on Sunday. Frery won a 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (5) decision over Walsh's Whittaker. In a match that was a bit sloppy at times for both players, Frery was the steady player late in the match and ended up winning in a tie breaker. Both players, at times, showed bits of inconsistency and that showed in the large score discrepancy in both sets.
4th Singles
TU - Agustin Mangone vs. WU - Jaque
At a spot where TU is usually victorious, TU lost 3-6, 4-6 at 4th Singles to Walsh's Jaque. Mangone couldn't seem to get the ball rolling in his favor as his usual patient style was punished by Jaque. Both players had long rallies, but Walsh was able to take advantage of shots left short and won points in that manner.
5th Singles
TU - Nicholas Almeida vs. WU - Lucca
TU's lone senior came up big in the Walsh match by winning his doubles and singles match. TU's Almeida won 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 against Walsh's Lucca. Almeida has been struggling most of the year, but showed up big when the team needed him most.
6th Singles
TU - Victor Fernandes vs. WU - Adegas
Along with Almeida, TU's Fernandes showed up big when the team needed him. The captain of the team was able to win 6-4, 6-3 against Walsh's Adegas. Fernandes stayed aggressive all match, but slowly became more and more patient as the match went on. Fernandes realized that was his key to victory as he won the second set 6-3.
