1st Doubles
TU - Ludena/Almeida vs. AQ - Saari / Peery
TU dropped the 1st Doubles match against Aquinas 6-8 Thursday afternoon. The Dragons still seem to struggle finding chemistry in their doubles teams. While the match was close, the Dragons couldn't find rhythm to close out the match.
2nd Doubles
TU - Lezama /Frery vs. AQ - Garstecki / Taylor
For a team that has played both 1st and 2nd Doubles on the year for the Dragons, Lezama and Frery were victorious at 2nd Doubles Thursday by a score of 8-6. The match was close and the Dragons were able to win by a single break as per usual for the pair of freshmen.
3rd Doubles
TU - Mangone/Fernandes vs. AQ - Buurma / Struble
In a rather new pairing for the Dragons, TU's Junior captain Victor Fernandes and Sophomore Agustin Mangone defeated Aquinas' Buurma and Struble 8-6. The Dragons haven't had time to play together often, but they have surely shown that it won't take much for them to get into a rhythm together. The match was decided by a single break as the Dragons took down the Saints.
1st Singles
TU - Luis Ludena vs. AQ - Kristoff Saari (score was 4-4 in first set when Ludena retired due to injury)
Another disappointing match for Ludena due to injury as he had to retire against AQ's Saari with the first set being knotted up at 4 apiece. Ludena has been struggling with a foot injury since the team competed on spring break in Hilton Head.
2nd Singles
TU - Elio Lezama Perry vs. AQ - Andy Struble
A tight match that didn't go TU's way seems to be the story of the season for the Dragons. Lezama lost a close 5-7, 3-6 decision over AQ's Struble. Lezama has been playing higher in the lineup due to Ludena's injury and was finally able to return to the 2nd Singles spot. Lezama played a tough match, but fell just short in the end.
3rd Singles
TU - Pierre Frery vs. AQ - Will Buurma
In another close match that went AQ's way, TU's Frery lost a tight match 2-6, 6-4, 7-10. Frery lost in a ten point tie breaker due to time constraints. Frery played well the entire match, fighting back from a set down with incredible determination and prowess.
4th Singles
TU - Agustin Mangone vs. AQ - Gunnar Peery
The winning ways have returned for Mangone as he picks up another singles win to add to his collection. Mangone defeated AQ's Peery 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) to take the victory at 4th Singles. Mangone had a tough outing in Hilton Head, but he returned to his winning ways Thursday.
5th Singles
TU - Nicholas Almeida vs. AQ - Evan Taylor
A strong showing from TU's Almeida gave the Dragons hope in the match as he dispatched AQ's Evan Taylor 6-4, 6-3. The lone senior left on the squad has been struggling as of late in singles and was able to shake off the dust and get a victory for the team.
6th Singles
TU - Victor Fernandes vs. AQ - Ryan Fedewa
TU's captain lost a tight 4-6, 2-6 decision against AQ's Fedewa. Fernandes battled tough the entire match with both competitors going back and forth taking game after game. The true breaking point came with a break of serve that proved to be the dagger in the first set. This propelled Fedewa to a victory in the second set as well.
Exhibition TU - Brandon Fruits vs. AQ - Andy Struble
Struble played an exhibition match against TU's Fruits and was victorious 8-3 over Fruits.
