The Tiffin University men's basketball team led by as much as 19 points, but the Kentucky Wesleyan College Panthers flipped the script in the 2nd half, outscoring the Dragons 45-29 en route to a 78-76 come from behind win.
The Dragons got off to a hot start, scoring the first seven points of the contest, and extending the lead to 20-10 with an Alex Brown made three. The lead was extended to 14 by Khaleal McCormick with a three point basket of his own, his second of the half. Tiffin stepped on the gas pedal down the stretch, using a 12-2 run to push the Panther deficit to 19 points, and ultimately lead 47-33 to end the 1st half. The Dragon offensive attack was aided by 9-12 shooting from three.
At the half, the Dragons were shooting 54.8% from the field including 9-12 from three. Tony Kynard led the charge offensively, scoring 11 points and handing out four assists. Khaleal McCormick and Andy Bachman each hit twice from three and both pitched in with eight points in the 1st half. The Dragon defense held KWC to 44% shooting from the field, and forced six Panther turnovers.
With the Dragons in the driver seat, holding a 14 point lead, Kentucky Wesleyan began their march back in the 2nd half. The Panthers used a quick 9-0 run to open the half cutting their deficit to five points. The Dragons responded with a made three from Andy Bachman, and then Alex Brown hit from deep to push the lead to nine points at 53-44.
Tiffin, seeing its lead dwindle to five points, fought back the charging Panthers with a 6-0 scamper to push their lead back to double digits at 67-56. The Dragons maintained their lead through the middle of the 2nd half, but at the two minute mark, the flood gates opened and the Panthers rushed in to seize the game. KWC ended the contest on a 12-2 run, with the aid of three Dragon turnovers, which led to 8 of the 12 points scored in the run.
Tiffin was led in the scoring column by Khaleal McCormick with 18 points on 5 of 11 shooting from the field, including a 3-4 performance from three. Andy Bachman added 15 points off the bench, while Tony Kynard chipped in with 11 points and 6 assists. Jonathan Sutherlin hit the boards for the Dragons, dragging down 10 in the contest.
The loss moves Tiffin to 1-1 overall. They will back in action on Tuesday evening, traveling to Northern Kentucky University for an exhibition contest at 7:00 p.m..
