The Tiffin University volleyball team swept the season series with the Central State University Marauders, beating Central State 3-0 on September 22, and doing the same this evening 25-9, 25-9, and 25-11.
The Dragons roared out of the gate in set one, taking a 9-1 lead. Tiffin continued to pour it on as they increased their lead to 16-4, and ultimately ran away from the Marauders 25-9. Tiffin clobbered 15 kills in the set and hit at a robust .722.
Set two was no different, as TU flew out of the starting blocks to a 7-0 lead. The closest Central State came to TU was 8-2, and after that it was all but over, as Tiffin cruised to an easy 25-9 win. The score may have been the same, but statistically the Dragons improved their attack. The Dragons whacked 10 kills, and hit at a red hot .750.
In the final set, Tiffin kept the same game plan as the previous two sets, start fast and never look back. The Dragons grabbed a 4-0 lead, but the Marauders showed some fight, clawing back to make it an 8-5 game. With the Marauders within three, Tiffin hit Central State with a barrage of kills, and plowed ahead to victory using a 17-6 run to end the contest. The Dragons continued their hot hitting, making only one attack error on their way to a .846 hitting percentage.
Offensively, Olivia Cobb led the way with 8 kills in 9 total chances. Amanda Curry added 7 kills, and Jillian Campbell was a perfect 6 for 6 in the attack department. Emily Weithman added 23 assists, and the Dragon defense held Central State to 13 total kills.
The win moves Tiffin to 9-10 overall. The Dragons will be back home this Friday and Saturday, hosting the Michigan Tech Huskies and Northern Michigan Wildcats.
