The Tiffin University Volleyball team snapped a five-game losing streak on Tuesday night as they defeated Ursuline College. Ursuline brought a 9-1 record to Tiffin, but left with their second loss this season.The Dragons came out playing efficiently as they hit .306 in the first set. This solid percentage led them to a 25-17 win. Set two was more of the same, as Tiffin came away with an identical 25-17 win. In the third set, Ursuline used a late 8-0 run behind the serving of Courtney Burns to make it interesting, but the Dragons would eventually fend off the Arrows as they took the set by a score of 25-21. The Dragons hit .265 for the match against just .165 for the Arrows.
Tiffin was led by a plethora of hitters who had outstanding performances during the match. Lu Phillips led the way with a game-high eleven kills. Olivia Cobb contributed with ten kills while hitting .438. Two other Dragons aided the cause by hitting above .500. Alexandria Miglin had nine kills on a hitting percentage of .500 and Chelsea Stockmeyer chipped in with six kills. Stockmeyer also hit a game-high .545.
Other notable contributors for the Dragons included another good outing from Tiffany Buchinger. Buchinger came in to the contest averaging just under ten assists per set and tonight she notched a total of thirty in three sets to go along with three kills. Jillian Campbell added six kills and four blocks, while Taylor Lattimore had a game-high 29 digs. Phillips also led the team with three service aces and helped set her team up for attacks with 12 digs.
It'll be a busy weekend coming up for the Dragons as they host Lake Superior State on Friday night at 7 PM and turn around to face off against Northwood at home on Saturday at 2 PM. Lake Superior State currently has a 2-10 record and will come to Tiffin allowing its opponents to hit .306 against them. Coach Cordova and the Dragons improved to 5-6 with the win over Ursuline and will come into the weekend hoping to bounce back above .500.
