WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Sophomore Jordan Widman had two hits as the Tiffin University baseball team (1-13) loss 4-2 to Winona State (3-7), Thursday morning at Chain of Lakes Park.
Winona State got on the board first, scoring a run in the bottom of the second. In the third, freshman Kyle Lento got hit by a pitch and moved to third on a wild pitch and error. Widman ripped a single to plate Lento and tie the game.
The Warriors used two hits and an error to score twice in the sixth inning. In the seventh, junior Nick Calandra doubled and score on a hit by Lento. WSU scored in the bottom of the seventh to lead by two. In the eighth and ninth innings, the Dragons had two on with no outs. In both innings, Winona State managed to keep the runners from scoring.
For Tiffin, Widman had two hits while Calandra and freshman Isaac Perry had five assists each. Junior Garrett Scott (0-2) gave up two hits, two runs and walked two in 1/3rd of an inning.
For Winona State, Andrew Geislinger and Ryan Nyhagen had three hits each. Hayden Krimmer (1-1) gave up two hits, one run which was unearned, walked one and struck out one batter in six innings. Scott Freiburger gave up one hit and struck out one in two innings for his first save of the season.
Tiffin will take on Lee, Friday, March 14, in Cleveland, Tenn. The game is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
