Despite winning most of the major statistical categories in their game against Malone, Tiffin University (7-14, 4-13 GLIAC) lost the one that mattered most - turnovers - as the Pioneers beat the Dragons 60-52.
Tiffin, which opened up a 16-9 lead in the first half against Malone, played the Pioneers close throughout the first half. Leading 19-18 with 4:36 to play in the half, Malone finally took advantage of TU miscues to go on a 12-2 run to close out the half and take a 30-21 lead into the break. The Dragons had 18 turnovers in the first half.
The second half saw the Dragons battle to a slim 31-30 edge on the scoreboard but Tiffin could get no closer than 4 points, unable to put together a run that got them over the top. Tiffin finished with 27 turnovers overall, along Malone to hold a 27-12 edge in points off turnovers.
Tiffin outrebounded Malone 38-27 and outshot them 40 percent to 38 percent. Jillian Adams led the team with 15 points and 6 rebounds, while Bre Nauman also reached a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Deidre McKay added 7 points while Jordan Fraley had 7 rebounds.
