ASHLAND, Ohio - Senior Joe Graessle and sophomore Khaleal McCormick scored at least 19 points each as the Tiffin University men's basketball team (7-11, 3-10 GLIAC) lost 78-72 to Ashland (8-10, 5-9 GLIAC), Saturday afternoon at Kates Gymnasium.
Tiffin jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead after two minutes. Freshman Kameron Wright hit a triple with 12:48 to go. That gave the Dragons a 12-4 lead.
Ashland didn't take their first lead until 5:37 left in the first half. TU led 24-22 at the 5:13 mark; however the Eagles closed on a 12-2 run to lead by eight at the half.
In the second half, AU jumped to a 10 point lead after four minutes. Tiffin trailed by 10 with 1:28 to go before starting their comeback. Junior Mike Brown drained a 3-pointer to make it 76-72 with seven seconds left. The Eagles hit two free throws to seal the game.
For Tiffin, McCormick had 23 points and was 12-of-13 from the line while Graessle scored 19. Junior Ashton Khan and Wright scored eight points each.
For Ashland, Cole Krizancic scored 20 points and DaWuan Thomas had 12 points and eight assists.
Tiffin remains on the road, Monday, Feb. 3 taking on Ohio Dominican. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. Live stats will be available at http://livestats.prestosports.com/ohiodominican/
