Tiffin University women's basketball opened the 2014 season at home against Cedarville. The Yellow Jackets entered the contest with a 2-1 record and the experience may have helped Cedarville to a 73-69 victory.
The Yellow Jackets held a 31-28 lead at the half. Tiffin committed 15 first half turnovers but did hold a 20-11 rebound advantage. The Yellow Jackets had 11 turnovers. Cedarville outshot the Dragons in the first half connecting on 13 of 29 shots for 44.8%, while the Dragons shot 9-24 in the half for 37.5%. Cedarville did not get to the foul line in the opening 20 minutes, and the Dragons were 7 of 8. Both teams were aggressive on the defensive end with 16 total steals between the two clubs.
In the second half Tiffin built a 13 point lead when Kaylee Patton connected on a 3 pointer with 10:14 remaining. The Yellow Jackets chipped away at the Dragon lead until eventually taking the lead for good 70-69 in the final minute of the game. Tiffin's hot second half shooting improved their percentage for the game to 50% on 24 of 48 shooting, while Cedarville finished shooting 49.1%. Both teams shot well from beyond the arc with Tiffin shooting an incredible 62.5%. The tale of the contest was turnovers, Tiffin finished with 25. The Dragons outrebounded Cedarville 35 to 21, as Jordan Fraley led the Dragons with 8.
Kaylee Patton rode hot second half shooting to 22 total points. Fraley chipped in with 17 and Bre Nauman added 13.
Tiffin falls to 0-1. Cedarville improve to 3-1. The Dragons will be back in action Saturday, 2 pm when they host Wisconsin-Parkside. Live video and audio can be found here.
