Tiffin University (5-7, 2-6 GLIAC) gutted through a dismal shooting performance, hit their free throws, and held off a hard-charging Lake Superior State team in the closing minutes to win their second straight GLIAC contest 54-44.
The Dragons led at the half 17-16, as both teams combined to shoot 11 for 61 in the first half. With TU up 25-22 at the 16:00 mark, TU went on an 18-6 run over the next nine minutes to take what appeared to be a commanding 42-28 lead with 7:20 to play.
But the Lakers picked the closing minutes of the game to get hot, going on a 13-2 run over the next five minutes to cut the deficit to 44-41 with 2:04 left.
The Dragons copied their winning formula from Thursday night against Northwood, hitting their free throws down the stretch to put the game away. TU closed on a 10-3 run, including going 10 for 12 from the line.
Overall TU shot just 27 percent in the game but they managed to hold the Lakers to just 20 percent shooting. They outrebounded LSU 48-45. The Dragons buried 25 of 32 free throws overall.
Jillian Adams had 12 points with 6 rebounds and was joined by Jordan Fraley with 12 points and 7 rebounds. Anya Misko was big off the bench, scoring 7 points but grabbing 12 rebounds to lead the team. Katie Miller added 8 points and Bre Nauman had 9 points underneath.
