TIFFIN, Ohio - Seniors Danielle McQuade and Jordan Jenkins had double-doubles as the Tiffin University volleyball team (5-2, 1-2 GLIAC) lost 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-20) to Northwood (6-5, 1-2 GLIAC), Friday night at the Gillmor Center.
In the opening set, the teams traded points until 6-6. Northwood went on a 6-3 run to lead 12-9. Tiffin fought back with a 4-2 burst. Freshman Olivia Cobb ripped one down the middle to make it 14-13.
The Timberwolves went up 18-14. The Dragons closed to 21-18 on a spike by McQuade. That was as close as TU could get.
The second set was a chess match early on with both teams countering. Junior Chelsea Stockmeyer picked up consecutive kills. That tied the set at 14-14.
NU outscored Tiffin 5-1 to lead 19-14. The Dragons refused to go quietly into the night. Senior Bridget Boyle and Sabine Stadler stuffed a Northwood attack to make it 23-21. The Timberwolves picked up the next two points to end the set.
In the third set, NU came out with guns blazing, forging a 13-4 lead. Following a kill by McQuade, junior Lu Phillips came in and served up five straight points. A kill by Stockmeyer made it 13-10, Northwood.
The Timberwolves came back with a 7-5 run to lead 20-15. TU gritted its teeth and went on a 4-1 burst. An ace by junior Sarah Haman made it 21-19. NU closed with a 4-1 run to end the match.
For Tiffin, McQuade had 13 kills and 10 digs for her sixth straight double-double. Junior Tiffany Buchinger had 27 assists. Jenkins had 27 digs, her 27th consecutive double-digit dig performance.
For Northwood, Juliia Pakhomenko had 17 kills and hit .333 while Jordan Dunn had 36 assists. Elizabeth Barker had three aces and 14 digs.
