PAINESVILLE, Ohio - Junior Mike Boan, junior Joe Graessle and freshman Jonathan Sutherlin scored in double-figures as the Tiffin University men's basketball team (10-16, 7-13 GLIAC) beat Lake Erie (7-17, 4-16 GLIAC) 71-59, Thursday night at the Osborne Center.
The first five minutes was a tight affair. At the 15:07 mark, Boan drove the lane and scored. That put Tiffin up 8-7. Lake Erie then started bombing away. The Storm went on a 15-6 run to lead 22-14 with 9:43 to go.
Graessle dropped in a triple from outside the building to get the Dragons running. TU closed the half on a 17-8 run to lead 31-30. Tiffin shot 50% from the floor while LE hit 39.3% from the floor.
In the second half, the Dragons pushed the lead to five, 35-30 with 17:32 to go. Lake Erie came back with nine straight points to lead 39-35 at the 14:39 mark.
With 6:47 to go, TU had a slight four point lead, 52-48. Tiffin then scord 10 straight points to effectively end the game.
For Tiffin, Graessle had 28 points and three steals, extending his 20+ scoring streak to 11 games. He also became the seventh player in school history to score 1500 career points. Sutherlin had 12 points and two steals while Boan scored 12 points.
For Lake Erie, Jamil Dudley had 13 points and Rich Austin scored 11.
