TIFFIN, Ohio - Junior Joe Graessle scored 24 points but it was not enough as the Tiffin University men's basketball team (9-16, 6-13 GLIAC) lost 88-70 to Walsh (16-6, 12-6 GLIAC), Saturday afternoon at the Gillmor Center.
The first four minutes had two runs. Walsh scored the first six points of the game. Then Tiffin came back with six straight points. Senior Cody Dennison hit a tough shot in the paint.
That tied it at 6-6 with 15:54 to go. The Cavaliers started to take charge and led by 14 with 1:10 left. The Dragons scored the last five points to trail by nine at the break.
WU still led by 11, 51-40 at the 17:03 mark. Finally TU began to chip away at the lead. Graessle found freshman Khaleal McCormick out on the wings. McCormick hit the triple to make it 60-59, Tiffin. That bucket closed a 20-8 run. Walsh would score 12 straight points to end the game.
For Tiffin, Graessle had six assists and seven steals, extending his 20+ scoring streak to 10 games. He also became the first player since 1994 to score over 600 points in a season. McCormick had 14 points and off the bench.
For Walsh, Kenny Kornowski had 24 points and nine rebounds while Ryan Vanderhorst scored 15.
