A miserable first half shooting performance spelled doom for Tiffin University (3-4, 0-3 GLIAC) against Grand Valley State, as they fell 69-52 in their GLIAC home opener.
The Lakers opened on a 16-6 run and took advantage of TU's rough field goal shooting to amass a 43-15 halftime lead. TU, which at one point late in the first half was shooting 16 percent, eventually finished at 20 percent for the half while the Lakers hit at a .545 clip.
But the Dragons did not give up. Down 30 points at the 14:05 mark, TU exploded for an 18-2 run that cut the deficit to 14 points with 7:41 to play. The Lakers, however, were able to regroup and hold off TU the rest of the way.
The Lakers held a 49-38 rebounding advantage and shot 45 percent in the game to TU's 32 percent. Grand Valley also hit 9 three pointers to Tiffin's lone trey.
Jillian Adams led TU with 13 points and 8 rebounds, while Deidre McKay had 12 points and 4 assists. Karli Mast scored 9 points and Katie Miller had 8 points.
