COLUMBUS, Ohio - Freshman Olivia Cobb and senior Danielle McQuade had 20+ kills as the Tiffin University volleyball team (11-12, 2-12 GLIAC) lost 3-2 (25-22, 20-25, 15-25, 26-24, 15-10) to Ohio Dominican (11-15, 5-9 GLIAC), Tuesday night at Alumni Hall.
In the first set, it went back and forth until 14-13. Ohio Dominican went on a 9-4 run to lead 23-17. Tiffin battled back with a 5-1 burst.
Cobb and junior Tiffany Buchinger notched kills to close the gap to 24-22. ODU got a kill from Courtney Braun to take the set.
In the second set, the Dragons could not shake the pesky Panthers. 11 times TU led by at least four points, only for Ohio Dominican to cut it to three. Finally at 22-19, Tiffin went on a 3-1 run to even the match at 1-1.
In the third set, the Dragons exploded for the first eight points. Once again, the Panthers fought back. Another spike from Braun made it 14-10. Following a serve error, junior Chelsea Stockmeyer served up four straight points to secure the set.
In the fourth set, TU jumped to an early 8-4 lead with four kills from Cobb and McQuade. Tiffin still had the lead at 16-12 before ODU began chipping away.
A 10-6 run tied the set at 22-22. At 24-23, McQuade ripped one down the middle to save set point. Back-to-back kills gave Ohio Dominican the set.
In the fifth set, the score was 3-3 before the Panthers took over. ODU went on a 9-4 run to effectively end the match.
For Tiffin, Cobb had 21 kills and McQuade had 20 kills and 20 digs. Buchinger had 54 and 10 digs while junior Sarah Haman recorded 21 digs. Senior Jordan Jenkins had 40 digs, her 43rd consecutive double-digit dig match.
For Ohio Dominican, Jackie Oestreich had 20 kills and Brianna Reder had 19. Defensively, Bailey Barker and Lauren Rindler had 21 digs each.
