Tiffin University's women's basketball team (1-0) used a strong second half to race to a 64-54 victory on the road at Ursuline College in their 2013-14 season opener.
The two teams matched each other throughout the first half, with Ursuline holding the lead until late in the first half. Ursuline held a slim 29-28 lead at the intermission.
The Dragons, however, came out of the locker room on fire, jumping out to a 23-10 advantage early in the half and putting Ursuline in the hole. The Dragons used hot shooting and strong rebounding to build their lead, but frequent turnovers (25 total) kept Ursuline within sight of the lead.
TU continued to play good defense, however, holding Ursuline to just 29 percent shooting while the Dragons shot 43 percent from the field. They controlled the rebounds 46-29 and hit their free throws when it counted, connecting on 15 of 19 shots.
Deidre McKay had a strong debut, totaling 18 points as the sole TU player in double figures while also grabbing 5 rebounds. Jordan Fraley and Katie Miller had 9 points apiece, while Anya Misko also had 7 points. Jillian Adams had 6 points, while Bre Nauman was the team's leading rebounder with 9.
