Dragons Knock Down The Battlers

TIFFIN, Ohio - Three players were in double figures for kills as the Tiffin University volleyball team (6-6) came from behind to beat Alderson-Broaddus (9-9) 3-2 (22-25, 25-20, 21-25, 25-17, 15-10), Tuesday night at the Gillmor Center.

In the opening set, It was back and forth until 15-15. Alderson-Broaddus went on a 7-4 run to lead 22-19. Senior Danielle McQuade rattled off two kills and a Battler error made it 22-22. However AB scored three points in a row to take the set.

In the second set, Alderson-Broaddus had the lead at 16-12 and was in charge. The Dragons battle back with a 6-2 burst closed by a dink from junior Chelsea Stockmeyer.

That tied the set at 18-18. Junior Sarah Haman came in and got a kill from freshman Olivia Cobb and two aces to put TU up 21-18. Tiffin closed on a 4-1 rally to even the match.

In the third set, the Battlers led 19-15 and looked to have things well in hand. The Dragons went on a 6-3 run closed by an error to make it 22-21. AB scored three points, two on kills by Caitlin Cain, to take the set.

In the fourth set, with their backs against the wall, TU appeared poised to tie the match, up 17-13. Alderson-Broaddus refused to quit, forcing an error and stuffing a Tiffin attack to make it 17-15. McQuade and Stockmeyer spearheaded five straight points to put the game away.

In the fifth set, the Dragons could not put the Battlers away. Cain crushed one off the block to close the gap to 10-9. TU settled down and went on a 5-1 run and won the match on a bomb from McQuade.

For Tiffin, McQuade had 24 kills and 18 digs while Cobb and junior Ally Kohlhase had 11 kills each. All three players hit over .300. Junior Tiffany Buchinger had 52 assists and Haman finished with four aces. Senior Jordan Jenkins had 38 digs, her 32nd consecutive double-digit dig performance. Stockmeyer and senior Sabine Stadler had five blocks each.

For Alderson-Broaddus, Jayla McCrary had 17 kills and hit .467 while Cain finished with 15 kills. Kayla Peterson had 51 assists and 10 digs and Jillian Brown had 30 digs.

Tiffin hits the road, Friday, Oct. 11, taking on Lake Superior State. The match is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. Live Stats will be available at http://livestats.prestosports.com/lssu/
