ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Tiffin University volleyball team (5-6, 1-6 GLIAC) lost 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-13) to #19 Grand Valley State (12-3, 6-1 GLIAC), Saturday afternoon.
In the opening set, Grand Valley State jumped out to a 10-5 lead. Then Junior Lu Phillips took over. She had a kills and served up five straight points to give Tiffin an 11-10 lead.
The two squads went back and forth until it was 16-15. The Lakers scored three straight points and the Dragons could get no closer than three the rest of the way.
In the second set, TU got the crowd quiet by jumping out to an early 4-1 lead. GVSU stormed back with a 13-3 burst to go up 14-7.
Down 22-16, Tiffin fought back with a series of blocks and kills. A stuff from senior Danielle McQuade closed the gap to 22-20. Grand Valley State settled down and got three points to end the set.
In the third set, the Lakers started out with a 10-4 run to put the match out of reach.
For Tiffin, McQuade had nine kills and 11 digs while Phillips and junior Chelsea Stockmeyer had two aces each. Senior Jordan Jenkins had 18 digs, her 31st consecutive double-digit dig performance.
For Grand Valley State, Betsy Ronda had 14 kills and Kaleigh Lound had 11. Christina Canepa had 15 digs.
Tiffin returns home, Tuesday, Oct. 8, taking on Alderson-Broaddus. The match is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m. Live Stats will be available at http://livestats.prestosports.com/tiffin/
