AURORA, Ill. - Seniors Bridget Boyle and Danielle McQuade had double figures in kills as the Tiffin University volleyball team (11-9) beat Drury (12-12) 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 25-21, 26-24), Saturday afternoon at the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover.
In the first set, Tiffin raced out to an early 7-1 lead. Drury went on an 18-10 run to lead 19-17. The Dragons closed to 20-19 on a kill by Boyle. The Panthers finished on a 5-3 burst to take the set.
In the second set, TU blitzed DU for a 15-5 lead and never looked back.
In the third set, it was back and forth until 7-7. Drury then took a 15-10 lead and looked to be in control. Senior Sabine Stadler got a kill that started a run of nine straight points to seal the set.
In the fourth set, Tiffin had things in control with a 21-18 lead. The Panthers came back with a 6-1 run to lead 24-22. A kill from Boyle and a block from junior Chelsea Stockmeyer tied the set at 24-24. The Dragons got a kill from junior Lu Phillips and forced an error to end the match.
For Tiffin, McQuade had 16 kills and 10 digs and Boyle had 12 kills and hit .458. Junior Tiffany Buchinger had 41 assists, Stadler had nine block assists and Phillips had 11 digs. Senior Jordan Jenkins had 25 digs, her 40th consecutive double-digit dig performance.
For Drury, Sara Borneman had 17 kills and Bridget Justis collected 22 digs.
Tiffin hits the road, Friday, Nov. 1, taking on Findlay. The match is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
