Tiffin Picks Up Two Wins at Crossover

AURORA, Ill. - Senior Danielle McQuade had a pair of double-doubles as the Tiffin University volleyball team (10-9) went 2-0, on Day 1 of the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover, Friday. The Dragons beat Illinois-Springfield (5-15) 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-13) and Quincy (7-15) 3-0 (20-17, 25-20, 26-24)

ILLINOIS-SPRINGFIELD

The first set went back and forth until 13-13. Tiffin then scored five straight points to lead 18-13. Illinois-Springfield closed the gap to 21-18 but that was as close as they could get.

In the second set, three times the Dragons led by four points. The Prairie Stars battled back each time with Ashley Beaton getting a kill to tie the set at 22-22.

McQuade and senior Sabine Stadler notched out kills to put TU one away. UIS got a kill but a smash by McQuade ended the set.

In the third set, Tiffin held a narrow 9-7 lead. The Dragons then exploded with a 6-3 burst to put the match out of reach.

For Tiffin, McQuade had 16 kills and 16 digs while hitting .371. Junior Lu Phillips had 10 kills and hit .375 with junior Chelsea Stockmeyer recording five total blocks. Senior Jordan Jenkins had 15 digs, her 38th consecutive double-digit dig performance.

For Illinois-Springfield, Beaton had 10 kills and Kayla Katarzynski collected 17 digs.

QUINCY

The first set was a battle in the early moments. Quincy got an ace to tie the match at 12-12. Following a Hawks error, Tiffin went on a 6-1 run to put the set out of reach.

In the second set, the Dragons were the dominant force early getting out to a 14-7 lead. QU scored five straight points to close the gap to 14-12. Quincy hung around until 17-14 when McQuade and Stadler got kills to seal the deal.

In the third set, the Hawks beat up on TU taking an early 7-1 lead. Tiffin ripped off a 12-6 run. A smash off the block by Stockmeyer tied the set at 13-13.

From that point the teams traded points. The Dragons had match point at 24-23 but Emily Lindemulder got a kill to tie it. Following a serve error, Stadler put the ball away to end the match,

For Tiffin, McQuade had 11 kills and 10 digs while Stadler had 11 kills and hit .786. Junior Tiffany Buchinger had 39 assists to pace the attack. Jenkins had 20 digs, her 39th consecutive double-digit dig match.

Tiffin closes out the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover, Oct. 26, taking on Drury, in Aurora, Ill. The match is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
