TIFFIN, Ohio - Senior Jordan Jenkins and junior Chelsea Stockmeyer led the way as the Tiffin University volleyball team (7-8, 2-8 GLIAC) snapped their conference losing streak, beating Michigan Tech (7-12, 4-6 GLIAC) 3-1 (25-21, 25-18, 25-27, 25-22), Friday night at the Gillmor Center.
In the opening set, Tiffin took an early 11-8 lead. Michigan Tech refused to quit pulling off an 8 to 4 run. A kill from Kendall Ward put the Huskies up 16-15. The Dragons went on a 6-2 burst to make it 21-17.
Once again MTU refused to quit, closing the gap to 22-21. TU settled down and got the next three points to end the set.
In the second set, both squads went back and forth for most of the set. At 18-17, Tiffin took over. Kills from seniors Bridget Boyle and Danielle McQuade and a block put the Dragons up four and they coasted from there.
In the third set, Michigan tech controlled the action, twice leading by four points. The last time was 20-16. Tiffin then caught fire scoring six straight points. A smash by junior Lu Phillips made it 22-20.
The Huskies came back to twice have set point only to be foiled by TU. Finally at 25-25, MTU scored two straight points to make it 2-1.
In the fourth set, the biggest lead was three points. A spike from Kienna Sharp closed the gap to 23-22. Boyle crushed one off the blocks and then Tiffin forced an error to end the match.
For Tiffin, Stockmeyer had 17 kills and hit. 433 while McQuade had 14 kills and 11 digs. Boyle had a solid night with nine kills and a hitting percentage of .364. Junior Tiffany Buchinger had 50 assists. Jenkins had 38 digs, her 35th consecutive double-digit dig performance.
For Michigan Tech, Sharp finished with 11 kills while Madeline Haben had 16 digs.
