Tiffin University (1-5, 1-4 GLIAC) and Findlay (4-2, 2-2) battled in a tight contest at Frost Kalnow Stadium, but big plays cost the Dragons throughout the game as the Oilers scored four of their five touchdowns on long pass plays and pulled away from TU in the final quarter to win 35-14.
Tiffin scored first in the contest, driving 74 yards on 10 plays and capping it when Tyler Jones hauled in a 2 yard pass from Antonio Pipkin at 4:28 of the first quarter to lead 7-0.
Findlay struck in quick fashon early in the second quarter, as Verlon Reed completed a 53 yard TD toss to Luke Hampton at the 10:29 mark to get the Oilers on the board.
With 17 seconds left in the close first half, the Oilers scored again, with Reed throwing a 29 yard pass for a score to put UF up 14-7 at halftime.
The Dragons started to get the offense moving in the third quarter, driving 80 yards in 8 plays before Jerry Brown rushed in from the 3 yard line to tie the score at 14-14 at the 7:18 mark.
Findlay again used a quick strike offense to retake the lead, as Hampton hauled in a 57 yard pass with 3:13 left in the third to put Findlay back on top 21-14.
The Oilers started to pull away early in the fourth quarter when Reed threw his fourth TD pass, this time 39 yards at the 14:11 mark to put Findlay up 28-14. Another score with 3:04 left on a 15 yard run put the game away for good for the Oilers.
Tiffin was outgained 533-312 in total offense, as Findlay out passed TU 347-245 and outrushed them 186-67. First downs were close (24-22, UF) but the Oilers made the most of their drives, striking on the big play throughout the game. Tiffin did force three turnovers in the first half but could not get points from the miscues.
Brown led the Dragons' ground game with 65 yards, while Pipkin completed 29 of 41 passes with no interceptions for 245 yards. He was also sacked 4 times.
Tony Shead led the way with 62 receiving yards while Jeremy Armstrong had 56 yards. Tyler Jones (38), Brown (36), and Marcus Beaurem (38) also had solid games. Brown finished with 101 all purpose yards.
For Findlay, Reed passed for 347 yards and 4 scores on 21 of 30 passing and 2 interceptions. Daiquone Ford rushed for 151 yards, while Lloyd Henry had 119 yards receiving and Luke Hampton finished with 110 yards.
Defensively Joseph Collard had 9 tackles, while Stefan Willis had 8 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and a recovery. Bryon McCorkle had 8 tackles, while Antonio Etter had 7 tackles with a tackle for loss. Brandon Person had 6 tackles with an interception, Keith Butts had 4 tackles with a sack, and Carlton Watkins also had an interception.
