TIFFIN, Ohio - Freshman Olivia Cobb and senior Danielle McQuade had double-figures in kills as the Tiffin University volleyball team (5-4, 1-4 GLIAC) lost 3-1 (21-25, 25-21, 29-27, 25-23) to Ohio Dominican (7-6, 2-3 GLIAC), Tuesday night at the Gillmor Center.
In the opening set, the teams went back and forth until it was 17-17. Ohio Dominican scored three straight points to lead 20-17.
Tiffin fought back with five straight points to lead 22-20. The Panthers got a kill to make it 22-21. TU got a kill from Cobb and junior Lu Phillips served up two points to end the set.
In the second set, ODU jumped out to a 9-2 early lead. Ohio Dominican looked to be in charge, up 19-14. Tiffin fired up a 5-1 run. McQuade crushed one off the block to make it 20-19. The Panthers then closed the set on a 5-2 burst to even the match.
In the third set, ODU took an early 11-7 lead. The Dragons came back with a 5-1 run to tie it at 12-12. From there, the squads traded points. TU had set point three times; however Ohio Dominican was able to hold them off.
The Panthers took the lead at 27-26. Tiffin forced an error to tie it at 27-27. The Panthers scored two straight points to take the set.
In the fourth set, ODU appeared to be in control with a 17-11 lead. The Dragons refused to quit and went on an 11-6 run. Cobb found the back corner to make it 23-22. After trading points, Jackie Oestreich got a kill down the middle to end the match.
For Tiffin, McQuade had 18 kills and 17 digs and Cobb had a career-high 11 kills while hitting .304. Junior Tiffany Buchinger had 48 assists and 11 digs. Senior Jordan Jenkins had 36 digs, her 29th consecutive double-digit dig performance.
For Ohio Dominican, Oestreich had 19 kills and hit .514 while Lauren Kraemer had 17 kills. Defensively Megan Hendershot had 21 digs and Bailey Barker had 18.
