TIFFIN, Ohio - Junior Danielle McQuade had 17 kills and sophomore Rachel Reamer collected 17 digs as the Tiffin University volleyball team (3-2) swept Ursuline (0-5) 3-0 (25-8, 25-18, 25-11), Tuesday night at the Gillmor Center.
In the opening set, Tiffin jumped to a quick 5-2 lead. Ursuline came back with three straight points. Kelley Plas blasted the ball in the corner to make it 5-5. The Dragons responded with a 14-1 run to put the set away.
In the second set, neither team could gain momentum in the early going. Maureen Kelly put the ball off the block to give the Arrows an 11-10 lead. TU tore off an 11-6 run to make it 21-17.
Ursuline forced a Tiffin hitting error to stay alive at 21-18. Freshman Sabine Stadler exploded on a set right down the middle. That made it 22-18 and The Dragons scored three straight points to end the set.
In the third set, TU scored the first seven points and were never challenged after that.
McQuade finished the evening hitting .361 and added five blocks. Sophomore Tiffany Buchinger had 33 assists, senior Maggie Betz had three solo blocks and junior Brooke Friesen had four total blocks. Freshman Casey Volz came off the bench with three service aces.
For Ursuline, Alex Leister had 10 digs.
