For the first 38 minutes of Tiffin University's regular season finale at Ohio Dominican, the Dragons could not find a way to put the Panthers away.
Then came the final 90 seconds.
A baseline jumper and a wide open three pointer by Karli Mast gave TU a big momentum swing and put them one point down to up four points with 1:15 to play, as TU (20-6, 14-5 GLIAC) put it together late and beat the feisty Panthers 67-56 in front of a supportive Senior Day crowd in Columbus.
The win secures the third seed for the Dragons, who will host a GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinal game Feb. 29, likely against Hillsdale (final tournament seeding is still TBD at this time). It also gave TU a school-record 20th victory.
Once again, the Dragons' post players were instrumental in the victory. Jessica Harris had another monster game, scoring 17 points with 15 rebounds and 4 steals, while Amanda Baute came off the bench for 8 points and 8 rebounds.
Mandy Jaeb also had 15 points, while Mast finished with 9. Overall TU outscored ODU 28-16 in the paint.
The Panthers played exceptionally well in the first 20 minutes, shooting at a 54 percent clip to lead 34-32 at the half. But TU came out of the halftime lockerroom on fire defensively, shutting down the Panthers offensively and holding them to a 22 percent shooting effort in the second half.
TU, which outrebounded ODU 43-28, still trailed throughout the second half despite the defensive effort. It wasn't until the final 90 seconds that the Dragons pulled it out, outscoring the Panthers 12-0 over the game's final 75 seconds.
After Mast's clutch shots, the Dragons buried 7 free throws to put the game away.
