TIFFIN, Ohio - Junior Joe Graessle scored 23 points as the Tiffin University men's basketball team (3-3, 1-1 GLIAC) beat Saginaw Valley State (3-2, 1-1 GLIAC) 84-63, Saturday afternoon at the Gillmor Center.
For much of the first half, the game was contested on even terms. Graessle slammed one home at the 17:12 mark. That gave Tiffin its biggest lead at five, 17-12.
Saginaw Valley State came back with a 13-5 run. Chris Webb hit a lay-up to give the Cardinals a 25-22 lead with 2:41 to go. The Dragons scored the last 10 points of the half to lead 32-25 at the break.
In the second half, TU pushed the lead to 12 with 13 minutes to go and SVSU could get no closer than 10 the rest of the way. Tiffin shot 73.1% from the floor in the second half (14-of-19).
For Tiffin, Graessle had 23 points, seven assists and five steals. Junior Mike Boan had 16 points and three steals while senior Cody Dennison scored 11 points.
For Saginaw Valley State, Webb scored 20 points.
