ASHLAND, Ohio - Junior Danielle McQuade had 15 kills as the Tiffin University volleyball team (8-18, 1-14 GLIAC) lost 3-1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-18, 25-13) to Ashland (20-6, 10-5 GLIAC), Friday evening at Kates Gym.
In the first set, the two teams slugged it out early. Ashland went up 13-9 and was on the verge of putting the set away. Tiffin came roaring back with five straight points. An ace by sophomore Molly Warren put the Dragons up 14-13.
At 18-18, the Eagles made another attempt to end it. Five straight points gave AU a 23-18 lead. Freshman Alex Miglin recorded two straight kills to make it 23-20. Ashland scored the next two points to end the set.
In the second set, it was near even terms the whole way. It was tied 15 times and there were a total of 12 lead changes. The Eagles appeared to have things in hand with a 23-21 lead.
Miglin and McQuade fired off kills for the 15th tie of the set. Freshman Sabine Stadler knocked a shot off the block to make it 24-23. McQuade evened the match with a bomb straight down the middle.
In the third set, TU fell behind early 12-9. Tiffin rallied scoring four straight points. McQuade found the back corner to make it 13-12, Dragons.
At 15-15, AU rattled off five straight points. Ashland finished the set on a 10-3 burst.
In the third set, TU recorded back-to-back blocks to lead 5-3. The Eagles responded with a 15-4 run that settled the match.
McQuade added 13 digs and three blocks while Stadler finished with five total blocks. Junior Jordan Jenkins had 23 digs, her fifth straight 20+ performance, 17th double-digit performance in a row and 20th of the season. Jenkins also went over 1000 career digs. She has 1,012 in three seasons. Sophomore Rachel Reamer had 10 digs.
For Ashland, Brittany Snyder had 28 kills, 12 digs and hit .412. Crystal Elliott had 45 assists and Marci Zegarac had 18 digs.
Tiffin is on the road, Saturday, Nov. 3 taking on Lake Erie. The match is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m. Live Stats will be available at http://livestats.prestosports.com/lakeerie/
