ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Junior Mike Boan led three double-digit scorers with 17 points as the Tiffin University men's basketball team (1-0) opened the 2012-13 season with a 72-52 win over McKendree (0-1), Saturday afternoon at the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover.
For the first seven minutes of the game, the two teams battled on even terms. David Ruckman hit a lay-up in traffic to make it 15-11, Tiffin with 13:07 to go. The Dragons scored seven straight points over the next 1:25.
That made it 22-11, TU. Josh Ramsey hit a bucket to end the run, making it 22-13. Tiffin however scored seven straight points and McKendree could not get closer than 12 the rest of the way.
Tiffin out-rebounded MKU 46-36 and came up with 19 steals. McKendree was held to 34% from the floor and just 18.2% from behind the arc.
For Tiffin, Boan added nine points and was 7-of-10 from the floor. Junior Joe Graessle had 15 points, five assists and five steals while freshman Eric Roby had 10 points and nine rebounds. Freshman Khaleal McCormick came off the bench to score eight points and come up with five steals.
For McKendree, Clinton Happe had 17 points and Ruckman had 15 points and eight rebounds.
