TIFFIN, Ohio - Junior Jordan Jenkins had 23 digs as the Tiffin University volleyball team (8-16, 1-12 GLIAC) lost 3-0 (25-7, 25-21, 25-19) to Wayne State (15-9, 9-4 GLIAC), Saturday afternoon at the Gillmor Center.
In the first set, Wayne State raced out to an 11-4 lead and was never challenged.
In the second set, Tiffin came out with guns blazing. Senior Maureen Kurtz got a kill to make it 12-7. Wayne State came back with a 6-1 run to tie it at 13-13.
From there it went back and forth until the Dragons were up 19-18. The Warriors scored four straight points to lead 22-19. Junior Danielle McQuade got a kill and TU picked up a block to make it 22-21. WSU scored the next three points to take the set.
In the third set, Wayne State held a 10-7 lead. Tiffin came up with two blocks to close it to 10-9. The Warriors put up an 8-2 run to lead 18-11.
The Dragons refused to surrender. A 7-3 run was ended by a smash down the middle by senior Maggie Betz. That made it 21-18 but was as close as TU could get.
McQuade had nine kills and became just the seventh Dragon to have 1,000 kills in a career. Jenkins had her 15th straight double-digit dig match, 16th of the season.
For Wayne State, Kristen Bulkiewicz had 11 kills. Maddie Kent had four aces and 12 digs while Lindsey Graciak had 10 digs.
Tiffin closes the home season, Tuesday, Oct. 30 taking on Ohio Dominican. The match is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. Live Stats will be available at http://livestats.prestosports.com/tiffin/
